Lord, teach us to pray … Luke 11
The Gospel reading this Sunday is Luke11:1-13. The reading is a valuable part of our life. Sunday’s Gospel truly demonstrates Jesus’s ideas on what is necessary for prayer to God. It is an illustration of how Jesus teaches his disciples that stood before him, as well as, teaches his disciples today how to personally pray to God.
Jesus teaches us how to pray by giving the simple words that has become the basis for the Lord’s Prayer.
Jesus teaches us to find a place of solitude with no distraction where we can focus on our conversation with God.
1) Begin by recognizing and calling to God. Establish a relationship with God as the loving Father.
2) Acknowledge God’s glory and goodness and express a respect for God’s name.
3) Pray for the purpose and God’s rule that as it is established on earth. Ask that our lives are lived on earth and they will be lived in heaven.
4) Ask for the sustenance we need. Not our wants but what we need.
5) Ask for forgiveness for oneself for our own wrongdoings. Ask for forgiveness for others, neighbors, community and our enemies.
6) Ask for protection and guidance on a road of temptation and evil. A confession o fsins.
7) Close the prayer with a thank you.
The Lord’s Prayer has a few different versions. What we use on Sunday’s is this:
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us
our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory
forever and ever. AMEN
After the study period on Wednesday, the group wanted to write their prayer to close the session.
Our Heavenly Father,
Your name is holy above all others.
Let your kingdom guide us.
Fulfill our needs and fulfill the needs of all.
Forgive us our wrongdoings and
forgive those who wrong us.
Protect us from our temptations
and deliver from all evil.
For thine is your kingdom, in power and glory.
Forever and ever. AMEN
The lesson was rewarding, and Bible Study encourages you to find a place of solitude, with no distractions and talk to God by using the template that Jesus gave us all.
