Holy Matrimony
We commend you for wanting God to bless your relationship by receiving the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. We would be honored to provide a setting for that Sacrament at St. John's.
Christian Marriage is a sacred covenant between you as a couple and God. It represents a spiritual union or husband and wife living out your lives in relationship with God.
Therefore Christian Marriage is a pledge to live in close relationship with God as much as it is to live in close relationship with each other.
Holy Matrimony is a sacrament of the church and it is expected that the couple will be active members of a Christian faith community while preparing for marriage. At least one member of the couple should be a baptized Christian. Persons who are divorced, with former spouses still living, may be married in the church with the permission of the bishop. The clergy will counsel the couple in this regard.
What do we do first?
The first step for any couple that would like to have their wedding here is to speak with one of the priests at least six months before the proposed wedding date.
You may contact them here, by calling the church office at (909) 596-1321, or you may speak to them after worship on Sunday.
What about premarital counseling?
The church requires a premarital counseling program of at least six sessions. This enables the couple to explore issues and to develop communication and conflict resolution skills.
The clergy use Prepare, a nationally recognized premarital inventory, to facilitate conversation. A $30 fee is charged for processing the Prepare inventory.
General information
The seating capacity of the church is 220. Rehearsals are usually scheduled on the evening before the wedding at 6:00.
The rehearsal will take at least one hour, and it is important that all participants be on time and in a cooperative spirit.
The Wedding Guild will help to make the rehearsal and the wedding go smoothly. The Director is LaVerne Wallace.
The Flower Guild is available to advise your florist, or to provide flowers for your wedding. The Director is Sally Crist.
The Director of Music, Dr. Robert Sage, will consult with the couple on music selections for the wedding. Dr. Sage should approve outside musicians or singers. Each of these wedding assistants can be contacted through the church office.
Photographs to record this very special moment are important, but remember that the moment itself is more important.
Photographs may be taken beginning two hours before the wedding and must conclude at least 30 minutes before the wedding is to begin.
The reception
Vicenti Hall is available for receptions. It can accommodate 140 people for dining, or 220 for a standup reception. Vicenti Hall has a complete kitchen if needed for your reception or wedding dinner.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for members of St.John's Parish, other than actual costs. Membership for this purpose is defined as being faithful in attendance and financial support of the parish.
